Selkie and Salmon in the Pacific Northwest

Selkies have long been an obsession of mine. I have never been to region of the world where their stories originated, but I have been in the Pacific Northwest. Feeling the magic of their presence, sitting on a dock where you can hear sea lion barks echo off the water, excitedly watching them dip below the water and then holding my breath, waiting for them to re-emerge usually farther down the river. Then there is the salmon. After walking through long corridors at the Bonneville Dam and various others, seeing the salmon and their frantic push to get through to the other side, I can see their beauty. Both sides are fragile and fleeting. Then reading about the tough measures on the sea lions to protect this precious ecosystem. With little twisting, I felt a selkie tale had a home here in the Pacific Northwest.
